These 62 photographs have one thing in coarse : none of them uses more than two base colour . These two colour in bantam dotsproduce halftonesfrom which all the gorgeous phantasm and high spot derive . They ’re simple yet spectacular .

Winner – Blue Fog
This is my entranceway for the duotone challenge . dwell on the weewee provide lots of photograph option & daily inspiration . This workweek in CT , we had some exceedingly bleary days . The original image of a fogged in river boat begin out face black and white . I think it conduct the moody blue duotone applied in photoshop rather well . I ordinarily have my D5000 glued to my hip but on this daylight I only had my iphone to snatch up with – nothing fancy .

Olmsted Point
Leaving Yosemite National Park for the season my girlfriend and I stopped at Olmsted Point . It had just rained and we were attempt to beat the C over the notch . This was assume at sunset as we make our fashion east towards our concluding terminus of New Orleans . Camping outside the park it snowed on us and the pass was shut down with almost a foot of Baron Snow of Leicester on the road . Camers - Nikon D7000 , Lens - Nikon Nikkor 135 mm f/3.5 AI
ISO-100 , f/3.5 , 1/125s

Acid Wash
I had n’t render doing a duotone delineation before now . I love the drama it provides – I had a hard fourth dimension choosing the photograph to submit ! This was taken at sunset at The Oasis in Austin , Texas at Lake Travis . I really enjoyed adding to my Photoshop skills , too . Thanks for the challenge ! f/2.8 , 1/640 sec , ISO 80

Demonic Fire
In my view , there are sure exposure that just have to be black and bloodless . Being passably new at photography , I had never discover of duotones . Doutones give a new twist to bootleg and white picture taking . Winter has typeset in here . I could have attempt something safe in my warm house , but my love is out in the field drive around till I find a Gem . After all Idaho is the Gem State . So I loaded up the dog , camera , lens system , and left all my filters at base .
“ Demonic Fire ” was shot in Clover , Idaho . This Lutheran church and school are the only affair in Clover . Other than thousands of Accho of rolling farm land . It is an absolutely beautiful context in the midriff of nowhere . The photograph was captured with my Canon T1i Rebel with the 18 - 55 mm crystalline lens at 18 mm . setting were , 1/25 , f-14.0 , ISO 100 .
In Photoshop I used the gradient map to select two unlike shades of bolshy . I then dally with the sliders till I pay back the high school and Low where I want them . open a newfangled level in curves I croak crazy until I got the exorcist need for the pic . I know the coloring material is extreme , but I think I get the Good Vs . Evil palpate I wanted for the exposure . Thanks for teaching me something fresh in Photoshop .

Maple Leaf
I took a picture of a red maple leaf on top of a lighted trace diggings so the background was all white-hot and the Christ Within shone through the leaf . I generally follow the Photoshop education provided in the challenge , but pluck a few configurations such as gradient map colour and the bend adjustment layer . I like how the picture looks artificial even though it start with something actual . canyon 7D with 100 mm macro lens . 1/100s , f/2.8 , ISO 200 .

Shades of Blue
When a tripper to the Dia : Beacon was be after for this weekend , I decided it would be a honorable time to try on my hired hand at a shot challenge again . The trip did n’t let down in term of striking landscape painting sight , but what was really heart catching were these windowpane tail in the Richard Serra elbow room . They seemed to be begging for this challenge ’s treatment , the problem being the photography rule in museum . So alternatively of the old phrase “ the best television camera is the photographic camera you have on you ” this instead is “ the in effect camera is the camera you may expend incognito ” . Therefore this was taken on the iPhone 4 , with some line modification and straightening . I originally wanted to colorize it to reflect the drop color outdoors , but ended up liking the blue more due to its resemblance to the Madlib “ Shades of gamey ” cover art .

Old Factory
I had a interfering weekend and was afraid I would miss out on this competition , a real shame because I ’d been looking for an alibi to try making duotones for a while now ! On the way down to a parts computer memory I bechance to find this cool abandoned factory . I figured the shadow and the grain of the bricks would bring pretty well in duotone , and I conceive it worked middling well . Worked purple in as the vestige tone to keep it interesting . Canon 400D with Cannon 18 - 55 mm IS lens at 29 mm , 1/320 sec , f/16 , ISO 200
-Brendan Dunne
Every single one of these photos looks tremendous . I was particularly impressed by a few shots that , in unconstipated color , we probably would n’t have apply them a second looking at . But thanks to the duotone outgrowth , we can appreciate all of their rich midrange oiliness . If you ever discover that you ’ve taken a wonderful shot that just does n’t protrude , it ’s a unspoiled tool to have in your armory . Full art gallery below , wallpaper onflickr .
