Fifteen year after thecharacter was first introducedand five years after her taradiddle came to a standstill , Ahsoka Tanois back with her very own Star Wars show , Ahsoka . The first two sequence are now on Disney+ ; every week until the October finale , we ’re going to lead down what happen , what ’s important , and just generally plunge deep .
As we said in our review of the episode , the first few moments of the first episode , “ Master and Apprentice , ” really kind of set the tone . To commence , the series has an opening front crawl , leading into a full - filmdom prototype of a spaceship vanish across quad . Those two things squall one-time - school , definitive Star Wars and almost playact as a promise : “ This is the Star Wars you know and love . ” And it seems like that for a second too . We take a bit about the galaxy at this time . We con a bit about the overall intention of the narration and then it plunge into specifics . Unfortunately , those particular are that Ahsoka ( Rosario Dawson ) is looking for a map to Grand Admiral Thrawn , which has become one of the most tiresome cliches in forward-looking Star Wars .

Anyway , Ahsoka solving a big puzzle to find out the map on Arcana , followed by a big fight with five bravo droids who then destroy the whole area as Ahsoka narrowly escapes , is the second thing we see in this first episode . The first is the said starship , which is get on by two citizenry claiming to be Jedi . Of course , in pure Dave Filoni fashion , “ They are no Jedi . ” They ’re Baylan Skoll ( Ray Stevenson ) and Shin Hati ( Ivanna Sakhno)—an immorality , Force - handle master and apprentice hired by the captive Morgan Elsbeth ( Diana Lee Inosanto ) to bust her out . What follow is , arguably , one of the coolest introductions in Star Wars chronicle . Just a flat - out mic dip of a scene that ’s writer / director Dave Filoni loudly announcing , “ Get ready for a newfangled Star Wars icon . ” The icon is Sabine ( Natasha Liu Bordizzo ) , riding a speeder bike with rock music playing as a pair of E - Wings essay and track her down . We see that while Sabine was looking at the function , Ahsoka was talking to a hologram of Hera . She too expresses rue over how her and Sabine ’s relationship went down , but admit that Sabine remains refractory and bullish , which was always the problem . Hera asks Ahsoka if her master maybe feel the same way of life about her , which is how the show delivers the info to consultation who have n’t seen The Clone Wars that a ) Anakin was her master , and b ) she leave him and did n’t finish her training .

Ahsoka and Hera settle to meet there and while Sabine want to come , they do n’t let her . Before Hera signs off though , she uphold her role as mediator between the former master and learner . Meanwhile , with Skoll and Hati now in monomania of the map , they go to the satellite of Seatos . There , they ’re reunited with Elsbeth who use another ancient Night Sister creation to make full use of the map . It opens into a full-grown , impressive showing which reveals something shout out the Pathway to Peridea . Apparently , it was a myth told by younglings at the Jedi tabernacle — but in fact , it ’s real , and it ’s the way to find where Thrawn was banished to . Elsbeth enjoin Thrawn is scream to her through infinite and sentence and that they require to eat up the final musical composition of the Eye of Sion , which is on its way . On Corellia , Hera and Ahsoka reach the ascendence center where they can see a heavy hyperdrive core being completed . Ahsoka then ask about the assassinator droid that take them here and when one of the protocol droids admits he was build up there , all infernal region breaks loose . The action shot that followed was the best minute of the premiere . Hera jumped in the Phantom with Chopper and pop off chasing after the hyperdrive while Ahsoka was caught campaign Marrok , the Inquisitor type working with Skoll and Hati . Apparently , that core was the piece Elsbeth was referring to . And so we have a coolheaded lightsaber battle on the ground , and sport space chase in the air , with Hera and Chopper just scantily get a trailing twist on the ship as Ahsoka fights Marrok to a deadlock and he escapes .
On Lothal , after the heart to heart with Huyang , and presumably the near death experience where she was bested by a better Force exploiter , Sabine do a determination . She snap up that old geartrain she ’d been conceal under the workbench , slice her fuzz back down to her trademark brusk look , and send a video message to Ahsoka who is back on Corella cleaning everything up with Hera . “ I ’m quick , ” tell Sabine . Yes she is .

at long last , the installment came to a close on a familiar but somewhat perplexing consequence . Sabine has her short hairsbreadth again and Mandalorian armor , and is take care at the mural of her Rebels age bracket . Then , Ahsoka shows up and the two take off on an adventure . “ Take us out , padawan , ” Ahsoka state . The moment feels like the straight beginning of this show — and also , the finish of Rebels , right ?
While fans may have assumed Ahsoka would clean up at the final stage of Rebels , the way this scene — not an exact refreshment but close — roach back to the iconic final scene of Rebels makes it fairly clear that these two episodes were before that instant . Now , finally , after two episodes , master and learner have reuinted , a moment we did n’t quite fully read five age ago , and can begin their risky venture . ( We ’ll have more on this tomorrow )
Surely , that could have been the end of the instalment … but no . We ’re back to the bad guy wire . The hyperdrive is placed on the Eye of Sion , which will take Elsbeth down the Pathway to Peridea towards Thrawn . But there ’s one trouble : Ahsoka Tano . Skoll is worried about her and says that while her presence in the Force is elusive , her determination is vivid . “ She is amount , ” he says . And she must be dealt with .

In terms of overall opinion on the premiere of Ahsoka , I write all about it here . But stick a scrap more spoilery , I think frame in the show around this Ahsoka/ Sabine master and learner relationship is potentially very interesting and rich . Juxtaposing that with a alike , yet evil lord and apprentice is also a gracious touch and realize all our pet from Rebels is just the icing on the patty . Are some of the scenes too long ?
