ForAlex Rodriguez, practice makes perfect — and he’s not just talking baseball!
On Tuesday’s episode ofThe Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, the former New York Yankees player, 43, hilariously revealed he rehearsed his proposal to loveJennifer Lopezwith the help of his assistant.
“I planned it for about six months and it was on a beach in the Bahamas,” Rodriguez told Fallon, 44.
“I had the ring, but what was interesting is the three days prior to me going down on one knee and getting engaged was I rehearsed three days in a row.”
“Well, I had my assistant actually with me,” Rodriguez admitted while laughing.
“One time the sunset was at 6:27 [p.m.], the next day 6:29 [p.m.] and then the third day it was raining.”
“So, I kind of came out at around 6:29 [p.m.] and it worked out well,” Rodriguez said of the big day.
Rodriguezpopped the questionto Lopez, 49, last month on their tropical vacation.
“She said yes,” Rodriguezcaptioned a photo of Lopezwearing her stunning diamond engagement ring as he holds her hand.
Lopez shared theromantic imageon her Instagram, too, including eight black heart emojis in her caption.

“Everyone is super happy for both of them,” a friend of the couple tells PEOPLE.
While J.Lo and A-Rod are over the moon about their future, they aren’t in a rush to walk down the aisle.
Lopez recently explained that she and Rodriguez have so much on their plate, that planning their “I dos”has been pushed to the backburner for now.
