The first time of year of Star Wars Resistance finish Sunday night with a rough-and-tumble for the ages . Kaz and his ally take to the skies in an all - out struggle to liberate the Colossus from the First Order , all while being mindful that the galaxy as they know it hascompletely changed with therecent destruction of the New Republic .
Once it was over , io9 got on the telephone set with one of theexecutive producers of the inspire series , Justin Ridge , to answeryour burning questionsabout why sure things happen , how the show ties into the moving-picture show , when time of year two may be fructify , what to expect when we get there , and so much more .
io9 : Why make it a tress that Neeku may not be direct everyone to D’Qar as Kaz had asked ?

Justin Ridge : Well , we recollect it would be fun to add a little something to the end just to make our hoagy a little incertain as to whether or not they ’re really run to get to their destination when we get to the start of season two . They were in a crazy hectic subspecies to get out of there at the very end . Even for someone as smart as Neeku , it ’s hard to put in the coordinates . So , yeah . we just imagine it would be a fun beat [ to say ] “ Oh no . I hope we actually get to where we need to go ! ”
io9 : D’Qar is obviously where The Force Awakens ends and The Last Jedi get down , so it ’s pretty polar . I know you ca n’t say if they get there — but if they do , do you know when specifically they do in carnal knowledge to the movies ?
Ridge : We totally know but I do n’t want to spoil it .

io9 : How ahead of time was it decided Tam was going to defect to the First Order and why her ?
rooftree : Early on we get it on for certain that the destruction of season one was rifle to overlap with what happen in The Force Awakens and that we needed some sorting of internal conflict in Team Fireball with Tam and Kaz . [ Tam ] just made gumption for us with her backcloth and her syndicate . Her grandfather working for an Imperial factory back in the day , her vantage point towards the First Order is different from Kaz and Yeager . So when it fall to the end of season one , when she ’s afford the chance she feels betrayed . Kaz and Yeager did n’t talk to her . They were n’t truthful with her . And all this accumulate to her choose to go into the First Order .
io9 : Was Von Reg ( the Red First Order archetype ) always set up to just be killed by Kaz ? Was his fate always sealed ?

ridgepole : Yes . It was crucial for us to have Kaz have a big winnings at the end of the season . He got thrown into this chaos basically in the very first episode , never fly the coop into anyone like Von Reg before in his life and almost getting killed by him . And we really wanted to bookend the season and show his progress . His attainment as a airplane pilot , that he ’s get on , that he ’s determined to strain and save the Colossus , so it ’s very significant for us that he had that winnings and take down Von Reg .
io9 : It ’s courteous that Kaz salvage the Colossus from the First Order , but there are a lot of hoi polloi on the Colossus who ca n’t be happy about leaving Castilon . Will their reactions run into season two ?
Ridge : Yeah , we will by all odds address that as we go into time of year two , but you ’re wholly right . Team Fireball are n’t the only ones on the ship . There are raft of other citizens and other people who call for the Colossus to survive . Like that ’s where their stage business is and now that they are uprooted off Castilon and manoeuver elsewhere we will unquestionably get a sense of that as we go into season two .

io9 : How does the show transfer now that the Colossus is mobile and on the run from the First Order ?
Ridge : Again I do n’t need to spoil too much but it does sum up a unlike moral force . We ’re no longer ground , the First Order is coming towards them … now they ’re on the run and we get to see what that entail and what form of adventures amount from that .
io9 : Will the fallout of suffer his family be a major through - line for Kaz moving ahead ?

Ridge : Oh yeah . It ’s definitely something that Kaz has to cover with . It ’s such a huge effect and really such a annihilating thing that happened . We ’ll by all odds see how Kaz address it .
io9 : Was the plan alwaysto join the movie timeline at the endof the first time of year ?
Ridge : Yes . early on on we knew [ The Force Awakens ] was go to be the big event that finish season one . We know that not only is it personal for Kaz but it also serve kind of primer where we are in the time frame of the beetleweed and the connectivity to the movies as well .

io9 : How did the decision add up about to use Hux ’s manner of speaking as the plug in second ?
ridgeline : As an invigorate serial you only have throttle assets and thing we can show and we could n’t just use a clip from the movie . But we have sex it was very crucial to express that something from The Force Awakens was encounter . And we were , fortunately , capable to do a model of Hux and employ his speech from the movie . So we knew we wanted to show somehow the events of The Force Awakens and we thought this was the best way to do it while still on the Colossus .
io9 : Were there any special challenges sheer the show so close to the movies ?

rooftree : There were a lot of challenges , to be truthful . We were locomote into a period that has n’t really been delved into that much . And give thanks goodness for hoi polloi like Pablo [ Hidalgo ] and Leland [ Chee ] of our story grouping because they ’ve really helped us to stay ground with all the different puzzler pieces that are happening within Star Wars . spend a penny sure that we are not cross into district that we should n’t or making indisputable that the events are congruent with everything else that ’s pass . So that was definitely a challenge as we were writing the stories . But I believe we stayed on running .
io9 : Since The Last Jedi takes station forthwith after The Force Awakens , and Resistance season two premiere before Episode IX in the Fall , could Resistance be the first thing we see in a post - Last Jedi world ?
rooftree : That ’s an interesting observation . We ’ll have to wait and see .

io9 : I felt like the Aces got a minute short - changed this season , will they be a larger part of things moving onward ?
ridgeline : They definitely will act a braggy part in time of year two . It ’s tricky . We have a lot of characters on this station and in our story so to give everyone adequate concealment clock time is kind of unacceptable . So when we write these stories we just organically need to ensure that it feel right and that we ’re say the right tale . And sometimes we do n’t get to see as much of the Aces as we ’d care but you ’ll definitely see them in season two .
io9 : Now that time of year one is over , what are your worldwide feelings toward it ? What things do you suppose were done particularly well ? Are there things you could have done better ?

Ridge : I have to say I ’m so impressed and proud of our intact squad and the amount of stuff we were capable to do in time of year one . Even though we were fundamentally on this political platform for most of the time of year we had different risky venture . Like when Kaz went out with Poe fly around and things like that . The team was able-bodied to make the show feel larger-than-life in its own way which I ’m happy we were able to do .
I think as an artist there are always thing you could look at and nitpick and be like “ Oh we could have done that ” or “ Could ’ve done this . ” But I think overall with the time inning that we were given , and the timeline as well leading up to The Force Awakens , I ’m just so thrilled with what we ’ve done so far . And look the audience ’s response to it it ’s been fantastic .
io9 : With serial Maker Dave Filonioff work on The Mandalorian , has his originative involvement with Resistance interchange from the beginning of season one until now ?

Ridge : He is indeed a very officious guy . And I ca n’t wait to see The Mandalorian . He wo n’t even show us the stuff he ’s work on . But , no , he still , despite all of the stuff that he ’s doing , has a comportment on the show . He still checks in with us and review reels and gives us his notes and thing . So he ’s definitely present on the show despite all the other stuff he ’s doing .
io9 : in the end , how is season two fail to be dissimilar than season one ?
rooftree : Well , I reckon the dynamic overall is unlike because now they ’re on the run . And I think audience will be capable to get a big idea of some of the things that are out there in the galaxy as they ’re being chase , maybe , by the First Order . So I think there are break down to be a quite a little of fun new thing that citizenry have n’t seen before , without saying too much . I ’m excited for everyone to see it .
