A California man has died afterfalling near a waterfall while vacationing in Hawaii just days after celebrating his wedding anniversary.
Crews eventually located the victim “approximately 120 feet below the Waipo‘o Falls.” He was pronounced dead at the scene.
“Personnel with the Kaua‘i Police Department, Kaua‘i Fire Department, including firefighters with the Waimea fire station, Air 1, Rescue 3, and the on-duty Battalion Chief, assisted in recovering the victim,” police said.
“Volunteers with Life’s Bridges, a grief counseling service, and (VASK), a nonprofit that provides emergency needs for visitors, are assisting the victim’s family,” they added.
DeBarr was an accounting professional and father of two,The New York Postreported.
He and his wife Maureencelebrated their anniversaryon Sept. 18, according to a post on his Facebook page.

Multiple California residents have died in Hawaii this year, including at least three people in June, according toSFGATE. Among them is a 77-year-old woman whodrowned while snorkelingin a lagoon at Poipu Beach.
A 49-year-old San Jose man also died in June following an incident while snorkeling. He was reportedlyon his honeymoonat the time, per SFGATE.
That same month, a 37-year-old Sonoma resident wasfound unresponsivewhile swimming at Tunnels Beach during a family trip.
