The small sportfishing Greenwich Village of Astoria , Oregon , try toscare off a teasing ocean lion colonywith a large fake mechanically skillful killer whale . It was a cunning dodging , one that match the sly ruse of world against whatever it is ocean lions have . But alas — nature won .
The plan to unleash the fiberglass sea wolf — which is in reality a licenced boat — was concoct to spook the sea social lion using recorded whale racket and the ocular scourge of imminent death by top ocean - dwelling predator . But the 32 - foot - long imitation whale ’s first voyage did n’t exactly go … swimmingly .
First , problems with the engine marooned the fraudulent beast .
