For a comprehensive newstudy , published in Nature on Wednesday , scientists analyze half a million recently declassified 3D satellite images . The images span nearly two tenner and 217,175 mountain glaciers , or about every individual one on Earth . The imagery came from the Terra orbiter , which NASA launched in 1999 .
The source calculated that these glaciers lost nigh 298 billion tons of mass on average per year since the starting signal of the 21st 100 .
