Over the weekend , we got a number of reports that Apple has downgrade the SATA restrainer in the recent MacBook Pro 13 - in and 15 - in update , capping possible crusade speed . Going over the evidence , it looks like they were right-hand . update
The issue has been examined at duration in the MacRumorsforums , where dozens of drug user are share their experiences , benchmarks and change point of disappointment . Here are the variety of numbers they ’re come up with quick SSDs ( excerpted ):
Older 13″ MBA , 13″ MB , 17″ MBP ( and old versions of 13″/15″ MBP ):

First of all , I believe that NVIDIA has never produced a exclusive GeForce 9400 M motherboard chipset ( aka ION ) that does n’t manage SATA-2 ( 3Gbps ) . And even if they did , it would not really lay aside a buck on the chip , as long as the chip size of it is identical . Most importantly , a 1.5 Gbps SATA - I Geforce 9400 M chipset does not exist , as far as I know .
Then what happen ? We ’re not indisputable , but debate these scenario : what if some computing gadget embark with a SATA - I disk ? What if 1.5Gbps consumes less power ? Because the hardware plunk for SATA - II , there is a thin chance that this can be updated in the time to come . We ’ll be wait for an official program line from Apple .
