Now that Barack Obama has been elected president , reports are rain buckets in from the future to let us recognise what to await from the next four to eight years . While some of these posts from the future depict Obama ’s America as a crowing government , anti - Christian nightmare , others insure us that the new administration will show in a post - racial , pro - technology utopia . Has the Obama election lend us a new brand of affirmative near - future skill fiction?Historian and Nerve.com columnist Ken Mondschein wrote anexcerpt from his imagined 2026 history book America : The First Quarter Millennium , which reflect on the historical context of Obama ’s election and the achievements of his disposal :
Electoral victory , however , does not always read into successful governance . Historians have assign Obama ’s success in his two terms as President to any number of gene — his reversing the ruinous economical policies of the New Right ; his use of technology to transform a blue-blooded , republican system of rules of representative governing into a responsive , flexible direct majority rule ; his power to convince a country with a frontier mentality of the value of social welfare . But Obama ’s achiever was rather due to the way he embody transformation . The ostracism and fear of lightlessness was the single capital baulk to American progress . Obama , by the simple fact of his being , infract this on the face of it impregnable mental fastness , and certify the Sojourner Truth of the shibboleth e pluribus unum .
Adam Cutsinger at FutureBlogger , writing from 2014 , focuses on thescience policies of the Obama governing . President Obama annul Bush ’s proscription on stalk cell enquiry , but it ’s his manner of speaking on the function of nanotubes that gain ground scientific research in the US , earning him the sobriquet “ Nanobama ” :

“ It has never been in doubtfulness , among scientists , and engineers , since the first “ harvest home , ” if you will , of the bantam , vacuous fibers , known as nanotube , which are pocket-size than hairs , and stronger than brand , that their potential to revolutionize technology , in all aspects , in scientific discipline , in engine room , in industry , in transportation , for medication , and the treatment of the many health problem we front , for the infrastructure , for computers , planet , for the geographic expedition of our oceans , and for the geographic expedition of space , is beyond any major advancement in the story of science . We can not , and must not , remain firm in the means of advance , toward a safer , healthier world , at a prison term when we look so many serious challenges . America needs to show the world , we are not afraid of the future . We still have hope . It is important for us to focus , on the problems of the present , so that when we arrive in the futurity , we are prepared for it . We must n’t let care keep us in the colored eld . Humanity ca n’t give it . ”
I ’m sure that , as the weeks go on , we ’ll be seeing more near - future science fiction from people outlining their hopes for the next several years . And , it will be exciting to see not only what social and political changes writers will conjure up , but also what potential overture in science and technology they hope to see under Obama .
