Warning: This post contains spoilers from the season 5 finale of Netflix’sLove Is Blind.

Milton Johnsonwas even-keeled for the duration ofLove Is Blindseason 5, and the finale was no exception.

Friday’s episode of the Netflix hit saw the 25-year-old petroleum engineer finally reach his wedding day with fiancéeLydia Velez Gonzalez.

Though it appeared their age difference, the ongoing drama with fellow participant/Lydia’s exUche Okorohaand their different respondes to heated situations would be too much to handle, the duo was able to overcome those challenges and say “I do” to each other in the end.

Speaking to PEOPLE about why he said yes, Milton shares, “I think when it comes to Lydia, we were so opposite in some aspects, but the thing that was most important was our values and what we wanted.”

“Our morals were pretty much the exact same,” he continues. “I think our age difference, it was the elephant in the room at first and then quickly got past it. It was making sure that the rest of our community, the extensions of us, understood what was going on and that we were generally there for one another.”

“With Lydia, it felt simple,” he adds. “It felt easy.”

It wasn’t always smooth sailing as the couple hit a rocky patch in previous episodes when Uche, 34, returned for the cast mixer and found himself entangled in a heated argument with Lydia, 32.

“I first engaged with this experiment because I wanted to see if I could potentially find my wife,” he shares. “At the end of the day that’s my main goal, outside of relationships that I’ve built with other guys, [which was] amazing. Unfortunately, [the drama with Uche comes as] number two to finding my wife.”

Another point of contention for the pair seemed to be Milton’s family, who weren’t immediately welcoming toward Lydia and questioned the legitimacy of their relationship. Even with their tense interactions before the wedding, Milton insists they had his best interests at heart.

“I’ll tell you, I have an amazing family. They’re protective for sure. I’m the little brother. The only boy,” he says. “My mom, she is the head of the family. She is the one. And then my sisters, they look out for me. So I think more than anything, they were extremely protective of me. It’s sometimes hard for them to not see me as that 12-year-old little kid.”

“But if you want to know more about how the relationship is now, I think you’re going to have to wait and see,” he adds, teasing their relationship update that will come during theseason 5 reunion, which drops this weekend.

“The experience was amazing,” he says. “I wouldn’t change anything.”
