Rapper Nipsey Hussle died in a shooting on Sunday, according to multiple reports. He was 33.

The “Hussle & Motivate” musician (né Ermias Asghedom) died after being shot on the street where his clothing store, the Marathon Clothing Company, is located in the Hyde Park neighborhood of Los Angeles,NBC News, theLos Angeles TimesandTMZreported, citing multiple law enforcement sources.

Two other victims were involved in the shooting, authorities say.

“Right around 3:20 this afternoon, there was a shooting that occurred at the 3400 block of West Slauson Avenue,” a public information officer with the Los Angeles Police Department tells PEOPLE. “Three individuals, three victims were shot. They were taken to a local hospital. One of those victims died at the local hospital, the other two are listed in stable condition.”

The PIO added: “The subject responsible for the shooting fled in some type of vehicle, but I do not have the information of the type of vehicle he fled in.”

The officer said that the South Bureau Homicide team is investigating the incident.

Just hours before the shooting, Nipsey Hussle tweeted, “Having strong enemies is a blessing.”

Nipsey Hussle — who grew up in Los Angeles — was believed to have ties to the Crips gang, of which he spoke in a 2010 interview withComplex, NBC News notes.

Over the years, Nipsey Hussle has dropped several mixtapes and worked withJAY-Z.Victory Lap, which is both his debut album and his last album to be released during his lifetime, was nominated for best rap album at theGrammy Awardsin February.

“More than a lot of the things that we considered a success,” he continued. “I know in my heart that it’s a higher power and a higher value to what we can do. The times we do it right and it connects and it has that effect on people; that’s really, really fulfilling.”

As news of his death spread on social media Sunday, several stars paid tribute to Nipsey Hussle — includingRihanna.

Reacting to the news that Nipsey Hussle had been involved in the shooting,Stephen Currytweeted: “God please cover and restore @NipseyHussle right now!!!”

While on theirMillennium Tourstop in Newark, New Jersey on Sunday, B2K, Mario, Pretty Ricky and Lloyd stopped the concert for a moment and shared the news with the crowd.

Lloyd was visibly distraught and told the audience he’d worked closely with Nipsey.

“He was a good dude, a father,” Lloyd told the crowd. “We gotta stop killing each other.”

Ja Rule and Ashanti, who were also on stage, left shortly after saying, “R.I.P. Nipsey.”
